MC Bracing Project: Wait-Tay Pt. 1

After the awesomeness of May 8th's event I decided it was time to tackle some projects I've been meaning to get to. Projects being, trunk brace, rear bumper bar, fender brace, and Z32 brakes.

I first started with a theory of mine. The basic principle is to bind strings from certain point of the chassis to others to determine flex. I started off by mounting strings in the trunk area, and measuring there height in the center of the string down to the trunk. Then I jacked up each rear wheel the same amount until the suspension compressed and started to lift/flex the chassis. After documenting the changes in the strings height I was surprised to see this somewhat worked! Of course it won't accurately tell me exactly how much the chassis flexes under driving/Drifting it did however give more incentive on where to start.

Results..

It flexed in areas where I expected it but also in others I didn't think it would flex. As you can see string "B" didn't flex at all, however strings "C" & "D" surprised me. The differences are small but are magnified upon actual load, i.e. Driving.

Sweet action shot!

Finished piece, lookin cool..

Gangstaaaa...

Don't ask, it attacked me

Here's the rear bumper bar, nothing extravagant. Its not really designed as a crash bar, mainly just for retaining rigidity. I figured if I hit anything close enough to hit it I'm going to be messing up a lot more than that anyhow.

Putting the Z brakes on...

So pretty...

I'm working on custom door panels lol, I wish I had started doing this a long time ago. I could have wrapped my entire interior!
